UNREAL WORLD OF REALITY TV....

When I was in India, I don’t remember a single day me not watching TV. TV was my life. TV was the only source of fights between me and my mom. But after coming to UK, I have not watched TV for past two years…That’s unbelievable but it’s a fact. But thanks to Internet that we can watch many of the Indian television shows on our small laptop screens…

After some prescribed suggestions from my friends I dared to have glimpses of “Reality Shows”….If they can be called so……Honestly I was not able to see that piece of crap even for 5 minutes...

Though the term "reality" is often a contradiction in terms, considering that the shows now in circulation. I guess the makers of these shows have forgotten the meaning of reality television. I would like to remind them, that reality television is a genre of programming that showcases unscripted dramatic or humorous situations usually featuring ordinary people. Unfortunately, they are nowhere close to the definition.

Television which was once supposed to be our escape from reality is now increasingly focusing on the so called unreal reality shows…These shows are just craving for high TRP’s by unleashing on us artificial emotions and human behaviors forcing us to take sides and form opinions.

I have nothing against the contestants taking part in the show. They are the unheard, unseen talent of our country in quest of fame. We are a nation of singers. Bathroom, bedroom, and boardroom we hum and sing everywhere. But how many of these talented singers succeed beyond the shows? High-profile judges on these shallow shows are laughing all the way to the bank.

Rather than nurturing new serious talent, I think we are giving these wanna-be singers false hopes, not to mention providing employment for jobless composers. I mean look at judges like Anu Mallik, Aadesh Srivastava, Himesh Reshammiya etc. What are the credentials of these people? Are they fit to judge anything? Forget music, I think they personally need help in all ways….

And yes not to forget, Judges are supposed to be at loggerheads. They are supposed to fight and then say sorry to each other off camera. Frankly between intolerable judges and super-obnoxious star-guests, the poor contestants stand no chance.

But in all this unreal TV shows one show that has struck the right chord is Marathi Saregamapa Little champs. I speak to family every night on Skye and in background I used to hear these small kids singing so beautifully. My mom is a follower of this show, such to an extent that she used to prefer listening to those little champs than her only daughter 1000 miles away…Lolzz. I was being hearing all praises for these kids from her. But unfortunately I am not an avid listener of Marathi music. But recently I am being following the show. And I must say this is one of the best singing talent show I have seen till date.

These kids are so talented and so pure. They don’t have artificial dialogues, irritating accent and most importantly they sing fantastically. The judges (Avadoot Gupte and Vaishali Samant) are so wonderful and know their job brilliantly. In this dirty and artificial circulation of programmes, thanks to Zee Marathi for this wonderful singing talent show.

I firmly believe that these little champs should give extensive training of good singing to all other talent hunt show contestants as well as judges. The quality of talent hunts from all over Asia is far more inferior to the little champs from small cities of Maharashtra. After listening to these champs, I have started humming and listening to Marathi music. It has changed my perception towards music for good.

In spite of not using well scripted dialogues and artificial nakhras, this show is a huge hit. I really want to appreciate Zee Marathi’s efforts and congratulate them for this success and as well thank them for showing people what they want to see.

I feel like asking the Indian audience, have we really forgotten the taste of good music?

Are we really falling pray to these compulsive and regressive reality shows?

I hope the answer is NOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LITTLE MASTER!!!

This is my first blog ever!!! Please bear with me...

When I thought about writing down my thoughts...I had to start writing about a person whom I hugely admire and feel proud of..

This week has been a bravo week for India. Starting from Parvathy winning the runner up title to little master's historic century...Sachin Tendulkar a son of Mumbai and country's greatest sport hero-scored an unbeaten century to give India a historic victory over England.

His statistics are keeping his critic's mouth shut. But statistics only hint at Tendulkar's greatness. It's the way he scores all those runs that is the most thrilling thing about his game.

His interview after this victory proved that he is not just a sport hero but a responsible citizen. I guess our pulbic servants should see the interview and atleast see what a leader is expected to say..As Harsha Bhogle once said that every series or world cup there are designated leaders for Indian cricket team; but in practice one person has always played the role of a leader by his sheer presence and performance---Tendulkar.

He is one of the greatest human being I have seen. I remember the days when as kids we went to his house to take autograph. And with a huge smile of his face and love he signed autoraphs for us. Now when I think about our irresponsible behaviour of intruding his privacy, i feel horrible. But that man was so down to earth and simple that our love for him was transformed into admiration.

What made me write about Sachin today? It's an incident that happened with me. There are not much cricket followers in this football crazy country. Also gora's are not that found of brown skin people("ASIANS"). But today, an English old man met me and asked are you Indian? After my humble reply, he said that he is so fond of Sachin Tendulkar and congratulated India on their historic win. He said he is the only cricket player who people not only love, but also " respect". It was a proud moment for me..

It made me think that Sachin Tendulkar is a silent hero who has created echoes of praises and claps for him..Sachin is no more just a sport hero but if I can say, an icon who represents India globally and makes us proud to be an Indian.

Love
Manali
